Dry Point
Planning
Planning Sketches
I added some shading to the bottom where the shadow/ or reflection of the person was
I added cross hatching to the top to help add better shading.
Process
Experimentation
The first time I stared it was very easy to crave out the lines I had made in my sketch. It was almost like writing a pencil. It wasn't too much trial and error with that. It did take some time, when i began to print for my dry point. My first time doing it, i was clueless. There was ink everywhere, I've really made a mess. after finishing my first print i had realized that i didn't get ink in all my lines that I've created on my plate. The second time i made my print the overcome of it still had some problems. Although i fixed the problem with the ink not filling in the lines I had ended up with smudges from the newsprint reveal itself on the paper. For the third time i made sure i took my time, wiping the ink off.
Process
Once I finished my drawing for my dry point. I put the clear plate on over my drawing and craved out all the lines made on the paper with the dry point tool. After craving everything out, i took the plate off of my paper and put it on some clean newsprint. Then i put a piece in a bucket of water and let it soak for 8 minutes. While the paper was soaking, I put some gloves on and I got the oil based ink and put the smallest amount I could on my plate and used a spurge to get the ink in all the crevices on the plate. Once putting the ink on the plate, i would rip a piece of newsprint off and use it to wipe of the ink where it wasn't need. when I finished that I took my gloves off and took the paper out of the bucket of water and laid it on a dry towel and pat it dry. Then I lift the all blankets on the press then I get another clean piece of newsprint and lay it on the press. After that lay my plate down on it, then the soaked paper on top and lay the blankets down on top and turn the wheel until it's completely on the other side from where I started.
Reflection
For the project I definitely don't feel confident about what I made but I know it wasn't horrible. It really took me some time to decide what to draw. What really helped me brainstorm different ideas I had was just by draw whatever that came to mind. That's what got my brain to start functioning. Even though it wasn't my vision for this project, I believe that I am getting better with sketching my ideas as i go so can gather them all together and put them as one big idea. I also notice a trend in my work where the theme of my work is there it's just not screaming it out to the who see it. It needs to be taken apart by detail.
